New Year Show 2020
The New Year exhibition celebrated landscapes both real and imagined by artists including Ellie Ling, Louella Gwillim, Louise Collis and Lee Wright.
Ellie Ling’s paintings follow in the tradition of presenting the garden as a refuge and her imaginary gardens serve as a theatre for many of life’s events, especially scenes of joy, surprise, intimacy and communication with nature. Louella paints the landscape around her home in Blaenavon with singular directness and captures a true sense of place. She paints mainly in oils but draws in pastel and watercolour. She likes to work directly before her subjects and has been drawing from the figure in life classes for over 40 years, both as a teacher and student. Lee Wright who is a regular exhibitor in the gallery is well known as both a painter and printmaker of great skill celebrating the Welsh landscape.
The mixed exhibition starting the New Year in the Oriel CRiC Gallery included regular exhibitors such as Rhian Symes, Martin Truefitt-Baker, David Haswell and among others ceramicists Jason Braham, Gill Bramley, Valerie James and Patricia Kelly.
