Matt says of his art practice: "My art intertwines the natural beauty of Wales with the lived experiences of its people. Using oils, I capture the physical landscapes and invite viewers to explore the emotional aspects, including historical, cultural, and socio-political contexts. I'm drawn to the losses Wales has faced our cultural heritage, language, landscapes, and exploitation. I believe the landscape sings of these losses, and through my paintings, I hear that song. My goal is to help viewers form a profound, personal connection with both the landscape and its experiences. As a self-taught artist near Llanover, I've been influenced by many, including Welsh artist Meg Stevens".
