| About | Christine Gittins has been a professional potter for almost forty years. Her work is based on simple, traditional shapes presented in a contemporary style. As an accomplished thrower she works primarily with form, pushing traditional boundaries set by the limitations of the potter’s wheel. Surfaces are burnished and left for the fire to create colour and markings, on the smooth receptive skin of the vessels. In her latest work she creates contrasting textures alongside the smooth surfaces. Inspiration comes from her love for classical concepts of beauty, continuous links to her African roots and the pure joy of clay as a medium of expression.
