The Percy Davies Trust

  • slide

The Percy Davies Trust was set up under the conditions in the will of Mrs Caroline Wilhelmina Davies, widow of Mr Percy Davies, who wished to perpetuate the Public Library and the temperance refreshment rooms which had been established in the Queen Coffee Tavern by her husband, for the benefit of the residents of Crickhowell. She bequeathed the Percy Davies Institute and its contents to the then Board of Trustees of the Public Library with the wish that they should maintain the Library and the Coffee Tavern and use any surplus income ‘for the good or benefit of the inhabitants of the town’.

Time has moved on and the Library is no longer in the upstairs room of the Coffee Tavern but has moved to purpose-built premises and the temperance bar is now the Red Cross Charity shop. The Board of Trustees is, however, still active and managing the funds of the Trust. At each quarterly meeting the Trustees consider requests for funding from local groups and organisations and are often able to help.

Could the Percy Davies Trust help your organisation? The Trustees are able to offer grants to groups and organisations which are based in Crickhowell. They are not able to consider requests from individuals. In recent years grants have been awarded for children & young people’s projects, sports clubs, educational projects and cultural activities such as drama productions, courses, workshops, arts & crafts projects and the Town Archive.
