Paul Rickard

Paul is a printmaker creating original, handmade, relief & intaglio prints in his studio in Llanwrtyd Wells. A long-held interest in archaeology means that he is particularly drawn to buildings and structures in their landscape settings and by the concept of liminality; by boundaries, thresholds and transitional spaces.

Initially attracted to printmaking because of  its graphic feel and the technical nature of the processes involved, Paul finds that the medium offers almost infinite scope for artistic expression. He particularly relishes the intellectual, technical and artistic challenges involved in the creation of an image by the repeated transfer of layers of ink onto paper via a carved, etched or engraved block. There is often an element of serendipity inherent in the process which adds an extra element of enjoyment and discovery.

He is a member of the Aberystwyth Printmakers group.
